Product Description
Mosaics are special works of art that use small objects to create larger pictures. With these Paper Mosaic Squares, your child can begin exploring how smaller pieces can combine to make an image that is greater than the sum of its parts. Mosaics are a calming activity that require planning, patience, and focus. They also prompt children to think about shapes, colors, and spatial reasoning.
Approaching the same project in different ways will also help your child think about different problem solving techniques. Here’s one way your child can create a mosaic: Glue the pieces down on a sheet of paper in a pleasing pattern. Then, on top of the pieces, draw the outline of a person, animal or object. Carefully cut out the outline and glue the finished shape to a plain sheet of paper for display.
Or, here’s another way: First, draw or print out the outline of what you want your finished piece to be. Then, reverse fill the image. Cut and glue paper squares to fit into the outline–your child may need to cut them into interesting shapes to get them to fit well! The finished piece will look very different when viewed up close than when it’s seen from across the room. Ask your child why they think that is. Many different crafts and discussions can come out of using Paper Mosaic Squares during craft time.
